Job Ad: Addie Levy Professor of Literatures of the Global South, Texas Christian University (Beginning August 2025)

Texas Christian University
Fort Worth, Texas

Application review begins immediately and will close once the position has been filled.

The Department of English at Texas Christian University (TCU) invites applications in literatures of the Global South for the endowed Addie Levy Professorship, at the rank of advanced associate or full professor, to begin August 2025.

We seek an established and innovative scholar whose research and teaching displaces the centrality of U.S. and U.K. geographies and traditions, using decolonial, settler colonial, post-colonial, Indigenous, multilingual, comparative, and/or diasporic approaches to reorient the study of literatures in English (including translations) within a global framework. Scholars of all time periods and specializations in the literatures of the Global South are welcome to apply and will receive full consideration. A Ph.D. in literature or a related field is required by the start date, along with a record of distinguished research and publication. Candidates must also possess a record of successful undergraduate teaching, mentoring of graduate students, and academic service.

The Addie Levy professor provides intellectual leadership for our graduate program, department, and university. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in literatures of the Global South, supervising honors theses, directing students at the M.A. and Ph.D. levels, and mentoring faculty and graduate students in research and teaching. Candidates must carry out a rigorous scholarly research and publication agenda, contribute service and leadership at the department, college, and university levels, and facilitate intellectual community. The position carries a 2/1 teaching load, a competitive salary, and a discretionary research fund.

Diversity, equity, and inclusion are central to our students’ liberal arts education and strongly held as central to our mission at TCU, and the department seeks a scholar with demonstrated experience and expertise in these areas. Candidates who are intent on deepening this mission are encouraged to apply. We see this position as developing global studies as a strength in our department based on recent and ongoing hiring in the English department in global literatures and rhetorics and decolonial and anti-racist pedagogies and practices. The position will also build upon a recent cluster hire in research related to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the AddRan College of Liberal Arts. We seek a colleague who views teaching, scholarship and community involvement as interwoven and inspiring endeavors.

Holders of endowed chairs and professorships are appointed for up to five-year renewable terms, with the expectation of renewal upon confirmation that the endowment holder continues to provide the academic leadership, productivity, and initiative recognized when the original appointment was made. Such appointments are normally continuous, but are subject to review at the end of each term.
