CFP: Southern Conference on British Studies (3/15/2016; 11/4-5/2016)

Southern Conference on British Studies

The Southern Conference on British Studies solicits proposals for its 2016 meeting in St. Pete Beach, Florida, Nov. 4-5, 2016. The SCBS will meet in conjunction with the Southern Historical Association.

The SCBS construes British Studies widely and invites participation by scholars in all areas of British history and culture, including the Empire or Commonwealth and the British Isles. The conference welcomes both individual and panel submissions on any topic in British Studies, but especially on the theme of Networks, Movements, and Migrations. They invite papers that address this theme from a wide variety of perspectives, exploring intellectual, imperial, political, social, and other networks that operated within, between, and across nation-states, as well as the movement and circulation of peoples, ideas, capital, and information within, across, in opposition to those networks.

Individual proposals should be no more than 250 words in length and include a short biographical statement. Panel proposals should be limited to 750 words and include a rationale for the panel as well as a brief description of each paper and participant. Proposals should be sent to mdenie@westga.edu by March 15, 2016.

The SCBS graduate student prize ($250) will be awarded to the best paper presented at the conference by a graduate student. Entries for the prize must be submitted by March 1, 2015 to mdenie@westga.edu.
