rsvp

The Research Society for Victorian Periodicals (RSVP) is pleased to announce the annual Robert and Vineta Colby Scholarly Book Prize for the scholarly book that most advances the understanding of the nineteenth-century British newspaper and/or periodical press. All books exploring periodicals of the period are eligible so long as they have an official publication date of 2015. The winner will receive a monetary award of up to $2,000, and will be invited to speak at the RSVP conference in Kansas City (September 9-10, 2016).

To nominate a book, please email the chair of the prize committee (ahumpherys@gc.cuny.edu), by December 1, 2015. The writer or their press will be asked to supply the committee with five copies of the book by mid-December, 2015. Self-nominations are welcome.

The Colby Book Prize was endowed in 2006 in memory of Robert Colby by his wife, Vineta Colby, also a distinguished scholar and long-time member of RSVP. In 2011, following Vineta’s death, the Board of Directors of RSVP unanimously voted to re-name the prize to honor both Robert and Vineta Colby for their many fine contributions to the study of Victorian periodicals and their long commitment to RSVP.  Past winners of the prize can be found here: http://rs4vp.org/colby-prize/
