Assistant/Associate Professor of English with specialty in British Literature (18th-21st centuries). The Department offers both undergraduate and master’s degrees in Literature. The department seeks a candidate who can provide high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in the last few centuries of British literature, in both face-to-face and online settings. Teaching load: 4/4. Candidates should demonstrate a willingness to assist with the retention and recruitment of students and a promising research agenda. The position requires a Ph.D. in British literature representing one or more of the centuries listed above and ability to teach courses in multiple genres from these periods, as well as core courses. The Department offers courses in composition studies and rhetoric, an undergraduate concentration in Professional Writing, and a graduate concentration in Writing and Linguistics. Therefore, the department seeks a candidate who can provide high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in writing, composition studies, and rhetoric, in both face-to-face and online settings. Teaching load: 4/4. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to assist with the retention and recruitment of students and a promising research agenda. Assistant/Associate Professor of English with specialty in Applied Linguistics and/or TESOL. The Department offers courses in linguistics, an undergraduate concentration in Professional Writing, graduate concentrations in Writing and Linguistics and in TESOL, and a graduate certificate in TESOL. Therefore, the department seeks a candidate who can provide high-quality instruction in undergraduate and graduate courses in linguistics, writing, and TESOL, in both face-to-face and online settings. Teaching load: 4/4. Candidates should also demonstrate a willingness to assist with the retention and recruitment of students and a promising research agenda. Minimum qualifications: Ph.D. in English, Applied Linguistics, TESOL, or related field. ABD considered (Ph.D. must be completed by August 2016 to remain in tenure track). Preferred qualifications: two years of experience teaching English to non-native speakers; overseas living experience; expertise and experience teaching courses in second language teaching methods, history of the English language, and/or introduction to phonology. About the Department:
The Department of English, Foreign Languages, and Cultural Studies offers undergraduate degrees with concentrations in Literature, Professional Writing, Folklife/Southern Culture, and Film Studies. M.A. degree concentrations include Literature, Folklife/Southern Culture, Generalist, Writing and Linguistics, and TESOL. The Department is home to the Louisiana Folklife Center, the NSU Writing Project, the Argus student literary magazine, the Brainy Acts Poetry Society, and the Film Studies Society.
About the University, the City, and the State:
Northwestern was established in 1884 in the old Bullard Mansion atop a hill overlooking the city of Natchitoches. The original Louisiana State Normal School, a two-year teachers’ program, was expanded in 1921 to a four-year education degree and renamed Louisiana Normal College. The school became Northwestern State College in 1944 and Northwestern State University in 1970.
