The University of South Dakota invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of English with specialization in nineteenth-century British literature. Additional teaching interest in eighteenth-century British literature is desirable. Teaching responsibilities focus on courses in nineteenth-century British literature, and may include general education literature and writing courses. Excellence in teaching is expected, both in the classroom and in mentoring students outside the classroom. The English Department is interested in developing its engagement with digital humanities, material culture, and theories of gender.

Housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, USD's English Department offers BA/BS, MA, and PhD degrees. USD is the state's flagship liberal arts university.

PhD in English (or equivalent) and teaching experience are required; publications and presentations are desirable. An ongoing research agenda is assumed. Anticipated date of appointment is August 22, 2015. Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.
