"Race, Place, and Perspective in the Victorian Period."

The Victorian Studies Association of Ontario (VSAO) executive invites proposals for 20-minute papers to be presented at the Association's 48th annual conference at Glendon College, York University, Toronto, on April 25, 2015.

The theme of this year's conference is "Race, Place, and Perspective in the Victorian Period." Professors Susan Casteras (University of Washington) and Charmaine Nelson (McGill University) will serve as our two plenary speakers.

The VSAO invite proposals that interpret the conference theme in broad and imaginative ways. Papers might address:

  • representations or erasures of race
  • surveillance environments
  • bodies in the marketplace
  • travellers' views and reports
  • workers, workplaces, and workplace conditions
  • representations of slavery and the slave trade

Please send electronic copies of proposals (300-500 words) and brief biographical sketches to Alison Syme (alison.syme@utoronto.ca) by Jan 25, 2015.
